When it all Comes Together

There’s always a moment before a concert where I wonder whether all the moving parts are actually going to come together in time.

Weeks of rehearsals. Learning notes and harmonies. Remembering words. Learning about staging, beginnings, endings, thinking about the staging, microphones, movement, how to instil confidence, and good on stage communication - and all the things audiences don’t necessarily see that turn a group of singers into a performance choir.

And then suddenly, on concert night, it clicks.

Friday’s Another Night at the Mowlem was one of those moments.

Watching Castle Voices take to the stage with growing confidence and professionalism was incredibly rewarding. What has honestly been the most exciting this season is seeing the choir’s progression not just musically, but as performers.

Singing in a choir is about so much more than learning songs. It’s about listening, supporting each other, engaging with an audience, understanding stagecraft, and learning how to communicate emotion and energy together. And I witnessed this all come together on that stage, right tin front of me.

For many of our members, performing in concerts like this would once have felt completely outside their comfort zone. Now though, there is a real sense of ownership, teamwork and belief growing within the group - and that’s something very special to witness, and humbling to share.

As the Musical Director, seeing the hard work, trust and commitment of the choir come alive on stage makes all the preparation worthwhile.

And now… onwards to THE BIG SING.
